Nebraska Football is going to have to fight hard if it wants to keep defensive line commit Carlon Jones now that Ohio State has come calling.

Just in case you thought that the success the Nebraska Football team has had on the field would make it easier in the recruiting arena, Ohio State is hear to dash some cold water on those hopes. On Monday, the Buckeyes came calling for 4-star Huskers defensive line commit Carlon Jones.

The official offer to Jones means that Nebraska Football is officially in a fight, just over a month away from National Signing Day. Unfortunately, it’s not the first recruiting fight they’ve gotten into and it likely won’t be the last.

That’s the secret of Matt Rhule’s regime in Lincoln so far. The players they are going after and the ones they’ve managed to reel in are some of the best in the country. When a team like Ohio State takes notice of someone like Carlon Jones, they aren’t going to just let Nebraska Football have that player.

The Buckeyes feel as though they can go into Texas and steal the defensive lineman away. We’ll have to wait and see whether that’s true or not.

Nebraska Football fighting for Carlon Jones

Two things work in the Huskers’ favor when it comes to Jones and keeping him in the 2024 class. The first is that Rhule and company have managed to forge a real relationship with him over the last few months.

Ohio State came up with an offer on the eve of November. One would hope the lateness of the offer would register in Jones’ mind. The second is that the Nebraska Football team has made a concerted effort to recruit Texas harder than it has in years.

While Lincoln might be a ways away from home for Carlon Jones, he’s going to have a lot of dudes from his home state to play next to should he stay committed to Nebraska Football. Still, this is going to be a fight to watch right up until signing day.
