When the Nebraska Cornhuskers grabbed the commitment of Carlon Jones it wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment thing. The defensive lineman did some studying first.

Carlon Jones was one of the bigger gets of one heck of a hot streak for the Nebraska football team. The defensive lineman is the kind of player that could spark the defense when he finally arrives in Lincoln while sparking the recruiting class before he does.

While the Jones commitment came out of the blue to Nebraska Cornhuskers fans it wasn’t really all that sudden. Evan Bland of the Omaha World-Herald wrote about Jones doing his homework when he was thinking about the Huskers.

When Bland says homework, that’s not really a euphemism. His schoolwork is a big part of the school that Jones decided on. The Bay City, Texas player said that while his relationship with the Nebraska football coaches is important, his relationship with his academic advisor is too.

“I’m not able to slack a lot because my mom stays on me about academics so I have a good GPA,” Jones told the paper. “When she’s not there, Dennis [Leblanc] is going to basically be my mom and stay on me.”
