Former Nebraska football head coach Frank Solich joked on Thursday that he knew about the curse talk and would have used it if he had the power.

Nebraska football fans found out on Wednesday that Frank Solich will be returning to the Nebraska football program, in a way. He’ll be making his first public appearance for the program he coached for so long for the first time in 20 years.

Solich will be participating in the Nebraska football spring game and Husker nation is understandably excited about his return. Since the announcement, it appears that Solich has been doing some media turns to talk about what went into making this return work. And it should surprise no one that eventually, the former Huskers head coach was asked about some legends that sprung up around the program after Solich left.

In most recent years, there was even talk that Nebraska football was suffering under “The Curse of Frank Solich.” That was considered to be so powerful that there was even a rally before the season a last summer in order to try and exorcise that curse.

On Thursday, Solich talked a little bit about “The Curse of Solich” and seemed to find the idea that he somehow was responsible for the struggles of the Nebraska football team humorous. According to the AP’s Eric Olson, the former Ohio Bobcats head coach knew about that talk but added that if he did somehow have the power to curse people, he’d have had some fun with it.

"“I will say this: if I had the ability to put on curses, there would be a few more people in trouble.”"

Solich was also asked whether or not former Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson would have been in his crosshairs. Being the classy guy that he has always been, he decided not to take a shot at someone that is one of the more disliked personalities in Husker Nation.

Nebraska football and the Frank Solich curse

One could posit that perhaps, that rally to expel the curse did work after all. Perhaps it just worked in a way that called for a little more pain. The Huskers needed to be so bad that Scott Frost was fired early on and Trev Alberts had the time to hire Matt Rhule.

Expelling that curse led to the Nebraska football program finally reaching out to its former coach in a way that allowed him to feel good about his return. Here’s hoping that’s truly the case and it’s blue skies from here on out.
