The Nebraska football team has already built quite a bit of excitement around the spring game this year. After all, it will be the first spring game that will be coached by Matt Rhule and his staff. There’s also one of the more interesting position battles that might officially be kicked off when Husker fans get to see new transfer quarterback Jeff Sims and what he has to offer.

There’s always the excitement that comes with this time of year and the hopes that this is the year that the Nebraska football team is finally going to turn the corner and be good again. Sometimes it feels as though this is the only time of year when Husker fans can really feel like  there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

And now, as of tonight, there’s also the excitement that the Nebraska football team is going to be having an old friend back in town. Trev Alberts announced that Frank Solich is going to be coming back to Lincoln to attend the Nebraska football spring game.

This isn’t just about a former Nebraska football player coming and showing up for the game. This is the first time in more than two decades that a man who was once beloved by Husker fans, young and old, will make a public appearance in the state. Once the cat was out of the bag, it took no time at all for people to weigh in and, well celebrate a day that’s going to be pretty darn big for Matt Rhule, the Huskers and their fans.

One of the most interesting things about this particular announcement is the teasing that there will be another “surprise” in regard to Frank Solich.

It’s not hard to imagine what that surprise might be, but it’s going to be interesting to see just what Alberts is teasing. The Nebraska football spring game is at 1pm on April 22 and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
