Nebraska Football: Matt Rhule brought in a transfer QB no one knew about
While everyone has been talking about the newest Nebraska football quarterback in Jeff Sims and whether or not he’s going to take the starting job away from Casey Thompson, there’s another new signal caller on the roster that is a relative mystery. That one Jack Woche is a member of the Huskers these days might be one of the biggest surprises of spring practice so far.
Because Woche transferred to the Huskers in a rather under-the-radar move, there just isn’t much info about it. Woche himself hasn’t said anything on social media. Though that’s not an indicator of anything considering he’s not exactly a prolific tweeter. What Twitter action there is tends to be retweeted posts from other people. There aren’t any posts on that site about him joining the Nebraska football program. Or leaving Ole Miss. Or really, joining Ole Miss.
Because there have been no real comments about the quarterback addition in what is already a crowded quarterback room, Woche is likely going to remain a mystery for at least a little while longer.
Judging by the Nebraska football website, the university doesn’t know a whole lot about Woche. The walk on spent the 2022 spring season with Ole Miss and has now come to the Huskers. It also appears this isn’t the story of a former 5-star who decided things didn’t pan out in Mississippi. Playing for IMG Academy, he threw just nine passes. But he did complete seven of them for 88 yards. He also rushed for 14 yards and a touchdown.
One of the more interesting aspects of Woche joining the Nebraska football program is that while he played his final year of high school football in Florida and then his first year of college was in Mississippi, he actually hails from Texas.
It feels like being from the Lonestar State is a big piece of the puzzle here. Rhule has made it clear that he feels the road back to greatness for the Huskers runs through Texas. It’s also clear that he is well-respected down there. The addition of Jack Woche to the Nebraska football program seems to demonstrate that. Now we’ll just have to wait and see what impact, if any, his addition has on the program.
