The Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s basketball team got to extend their 2022-23 season just a little bit longer after they managed to hold off the Missouri State Lady Bears on Wednesday night in the opening round of the WNIT.

The win was far from an overly impressive victory, but the Huskers managed to advance to the round of 32 with the win. Considering there were some who thought the Huskers would still be on the bubble for the NCAA tournament before Selection Sunday, going far in the WNIT would undoubtedly be a nice backup prize.

The star of the show in the 74-65 win was Sam Haiby who scored 25 points against Missouri State. A relatively close second in scoring was Isabelle Bourne who contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will next take on the winter of the game between Northern Iowa and Colorado State who will face off on Thursday night.

Other Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  •  Lakeview senior Landon Ternus announced on Wednesday that he’s accepted an opportunity to walk on to the Nebraska football team. It appears that the wrestling star is going to have a chance at the fullback position for the Huskers.
  • Luke Gifford is moving on from the Dallas Cowboys. And it’s possible that he’s now joined the Tennessee Titans, that he’ll be able to get a bit more playing time on defense. Until now he’s mostly been a special teams ace but his new 3-year contract with the Titans seems to mean he’ll be more than that with his new squad.
  • Tony White has been the talk of the town for the last few weeks as Nebraska Cornhuskers fans move closer to finding out just what his defense is going to look like. The defensive coordinator has gone on record saying he’s excited for the “next phase” as Spring Practice draws ever closer.
