While the Nebraska football team is counting down the minutes until spring practice starts, some former Huskers are working this week to show off what they can do at the next level. When it comes to Trey Palmer, the record-breaking wide receiver, he showed that he could quite literally run past all the competition.

Palmer, Travis Vokolek, and Ochaun Mathis are all reportedly having decent showings at the NFL combine, but it’s been the former Nebraska football wide receiver who raised eyebrows. Trey Palmer managed to impress onlookers on Saturday when he blazed down the track for his 40-yard dash tryout.

The Nebraska football star not only posted an awe-inspiring 40-yard-dash time of 4.33, but that time was the fastest of any receiver who ran at the NFL combine on Friday. Added to that, the former Husker receiver posted one of the best 10-yard-split times of any of his position group.

There are still some questions on just how much the Nebraska football star helped his stock, considering everyone knew that his main claim to fame was speed. But it certain can’t hurt that he actually showed off how he could really turn things up when he needed to do so. Now it’s going to be all about showing off what else he can do when he’s asked to show off his wares to the NFL.

The performance has to make those in Trey Palmer’s corner breath a little easier, considering things haven’t exactly gone to plan since he left the Nebraska football team. He did have the chance for one more year in college ball but decided he’d instead try to give the next level a shot. For instance, while he initially looked like he was dominating the competition at the Senior Bowl workouts, he ended up not having the kind of game he’d hoped for once the cameras were on, and the game was played.

Even after being shut out in the Senior Bowl, the former Nebraska football receiver was impressing scouts with his ability to run past his competition. On Friday, that competition were other wide receivers like Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt (4.41 40-yard dash) and Oklahoma’s Marvin Mims (4.38 40-yard dash). Trey Palmer’s 4.33 40-yard dash will almost certainly make NFL scouts stand up and take notice of the Nebraska football product.
