When it comes to Nebraska football recruiting, should Husker fans worry about the fact that Dylan Raiola is spending Sunday on an unofficial visit to see the USC Trojans?

The short answer to that question is yes. After all, USC is one of the best teams in the country and currently has more to offer than the Nebraska football team, at least when it comes to wins and contending for a national championship. There’s also the talk that Raiola and Lincoln Riley have a rather close relationship. A relationship that might be a bit closer than the Chandler, Arizona quarterback, and Matt Rhule. Even if the relationship between the Huskers and the signal-caller is getting better.

The longer answer is that when it comes to Nebraska football, the Huskers have made about as good a case for Raiola as they possibly could. They’ve laid out what they have to offer, and it seems as though the Huskers made an impression. After the QB’s visit to Lincoln last weekend, he made it clear he was blown away by the atmosphere. He said it was something he’d never seen before.

That includes USC. It also includes Oregon and Georgia. It’s not as though a visit to Lincoln is going to make those other teams curl up into a ball and go away. But that doesn’t mean that they aren’t toiling away in what is more “one last shot” than real competition.

If it’s true that Dylan Raiola is going to commit to Nebraska football later this month, then his visit to USC should be seen as nothing more than his showing a bit of respect to the Trojans’ head coach Lincoln Riley. After all, reports are that the two men talk almost daily. It’s even possible that he’s telling Riley in person that the Huskers have the inside track.

Nebraska football recruiting efforts seem to be working about as well as anyone could hope. They’ve made their best pitch. Worrying about visits to other teams at this point is probably misplaced.
