The Nebraska women’s basketball regular season is officially over. While there were a ton of ups and downs for Amy Willams and company, it turns out there was plenty of good going on in the final week.
That’s especially good news when compared to last week when the Huskers got a big fat “F” as they lost two games they badly needed to win. This time around, the Nebraska women’s basketball team actually managed to make a little noise.
Nebraska took on 25th ranked Illinois in a game that many onlookers would have had to say was a “must win” if the Huskers wanted to have any shot at a postseason bid beyond the Big Ten tournament. They ended up winning that game in a surprising rout, 90-57. Then on Sunday, they had a bit of a gimme game that was still a contest they had to emerge victorious from, considering it’s exactly the kind of game they simply couldn’t afford to lose.
While the Nebraska women’s basketball team did look a bit sluggish at times, they could hold off a very sluggish Northwestern Wildcats team 80-64.
Grading the Nebraska women’s basketball team: Week of 2/20 to 2/26
The win against Illinois was of course, the big game of the week. It was the kind of game that might allow the Huskers to still have a chance at something in the postseason, if everything falls just right.
Like the men’s basketball team, it would appear they’re going to need to make some noise in the Big Ten tournament, but the win against Illinois keeps them alive.
Then theres’ the win against Northwestern. While it could have been a bit more impressive, the Huskers took care of business and didn’t let one slip away. Considering how emotional the win over the Illini was, there could have been a chance for a let down.
