If you’re a Nebraska football fan who has been living under a rock, you’re probably aware that 2024 top prospect Dylan Raiola took a surprise visit to Lincoln this weekend.
As part of that visit, the 5-star quarterback prospect attended the Nebraska basketball win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers and seemed to be having a grand old time. While throwing the bones and posting about “the good life” are both positive signs, it’s a safe bet most Nebraska football fans are wondering how he really felt about the place after getting to take it all in. Turns out he very much enjoyed it, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.
"“I’ve never experienced anything close to that! Those fans are the best and they have always showed my family love! It means a lot. It’s a blessing to be able to experience these fans at these games! They always show out for their Husker sports! It’s a great sight to see!”"
The comments from Raiola have to be seen as a positive. Even if they’re a bit on generic side in some regards. Quite a few prospects tend to emerge from their recruiting visits talking glowingly about the school they just saw. But something seems a bit different in Raiola’s comments. Maybe because he knows that Husker fans will be looking quite closely at them.
Some other comments caught my eye a bit more than those about the fans and that was what he had to say about Matt Rhule.
"“He’s not going to cut corners. He’s going to build it from the ground up. I have a great relationship with him and I feel comfortable talking to him about things.”"
Perhaps it’s just a matter of reading into things being said a bit too much, but those comments seem to be an improvement over what Raiola said earlier in the winter when he seemed to be hinting the relationship with Rhule wasn’t quite there.
At this point, knowing what’s going on in the head of the star quarterback is anyone’s guess. But with the Nebraska football team pulling out all the stops, it still feels like the Huskers continue to be in the conversation regarding where he’ll end up.
