Nebraska Cornhuskers News: Baseball captains, Trey Palmer keeps impressing, more
The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team is rolling right up to the start of their regular season.
Practices started last week and on Friday, Will Bolt announced the five players who will be serving as the Nebraska baseball captains this year.
One thing that is clear, is that Bolt is going to be leaning on veterans to lead the team this year. Three of the five captains are in their second stint in that role. Four of the five are in their fifth year of college baseball. The group as a whole has 23 years combined of college baseball.
Bolt is looking for leaders and he certainly seems to think experience on the field is going to let this group lead the way.
Catcher Griffin Everitt, starting pitcher Shay Schanaman, lefty starter Kyle Perry, infielder Brice Matthews, and Efry Cervantes got the honor.

- Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball star Alexis Markowski got honored on Friday. I was announced that she’s one of the 10 finalists for the Lisa Leslie Award. This is the award for the best center in the country. She’s definitely a standout and should fight all the way to the last group for the honor.

Other Sports News
- The Big 12 will remain the “Big 14” for at least one more season. Oklahoma and Texas’ attempts to leave for the SEC early don’t seem to be going too well. As of now, it looks like the two schools won’t be bolting until 2025.
- Alabama has a new offensive coordinator and the name is one that shocked the college football world. Notre Dame’s Tommy Rees replaces Bill O’Brien who left for the NFL. Considering that the Fighting Irish offense has never been all that impressive, it’s a bit surprising that Nick Saban decided to go that route.
