It has been quite the last seven days for Nebraska Cornhuskers fans. This time last week we were gearing up for the final game of the Mickey Joseph era. Now we’re smack dab in the middle of the beginning of the Matt Rhule era in Lincoln.

Now that Matt Rhule is officially leading the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, some details about the deal he’s signed with the program have emerged. It’s been known for a while that he’s gotten a long-term, eight-year deal, and the money is … a lot. It turns out it’s quite backloaded.

Rhule is making just $5.5 million in his first year on the job, it then increases by a $1 million annually every year through the end of 2026. His contract jumps to $10 million in 2027, $11.5 million, in 2028 and then a $500K rise per year in the last two years. That backend of the deal sounds like a lot, but by 2030, it might feel like a steal.

Derrick Walker returned to the Huskers over Thanksgiving weekend and made a rather immediate impact. However, there were plenty of Husker fans who were a bit confused why he missed the team’s first five games in the first place. Walker finally addressed that, though he didn’t shed a lot on the subject. Speaking to the media today, the Nebrasketball star simply said his absence was “health reasons” and didn’t say anything more.

Meanwhile it’s been a rough end of the regular season for the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team. They lost a big part of their team in Kensie Knuckles and then lost to Wisconsin and Minnesota over the weekend. Those losses saw the Huskers drop to #7 in the AVCA polls. On the other hand, you know a team is well respected when it loses two in a row and stays inside the Top 10.

College Football News

While most Nebraska Cornhuskers fans are pretty happy about the Matt Rhule hire and how it was handled, there’s some other programs that could use some help. That includes Auburn who hired well known scuzzball Hugh Freeze. Things have gone great since his press conference, including Freeze lying about the fact that Auburn won’t let him run his own Twitter account.

Meanwhile, UAB is going out on quite the limb for its new coach. Reports are they’ll be hiring former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer, who has never coached above the High School level until now.

If that news doesn’t make Nebraska Cornhuskers supporters happy about how Trev Alberts carried out his business, then they’ll never be happy.
