Nebraska Football: Scott Frost to Arizona State rumors inexplicably heating up
Is it possible that former Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost is already in line to find his next job? While it seems highly unlikely that things would work out for him quite this quickly, rumors that he might be at or near the top of the list of candidates for Arizona State heated up quite a bit earlier this week.
Those rumors appear to have started thanks to the fact that the ex-Nebraska football coach was spotted taking in a practice on Thursday afternoon.
Before we go any further, no, the point of this article isn’t just to indirectly bash Frost one more time. There’s been more than enough of that since he was fired. Having said that, it is a bit surprising that there’s apparently some push behind the idea that Frost should take over for Herm Edwards.
There’s even a website out there called Clutch Points that believes that Frost is one of the top 3 candidates for the Sun Devils’ job. The question is whether or not he’d even want the job.
Frost is sitting on a very nice $15 million buy out and has been out of a job for just a few weeks. Arizona State is not exactly in great shape. While there’s been plenty of talk about the state the Frost left the Nebraska football program, it’s possible that the fallout of the Edwards era simply hasn’t really hit yet. It could be coming soon.
While his stay in Lincoln was a disastrous one, it feels as though there are better places to jumpstart his career than Tempe. Luke Fickell could tell him a thing or two about the benefits of taking over at a smaller school.
Frost had a ton of success in the AAC. It would make sense if he went back there. It doesn’t make a ton of sense for him to try and start over at ASU. And it doesn’t make a ton of sense for the Sun Devils to have the former Nebraska football head coach on their radar at this point.
There are other candidates out there. While I’d obviously like the Huskers to have the first pick, there are names that have had quite a bit more success than Frost in recent days. Even newly unemployed Paul Chryst would seem to be a better choice.
So what was Frost doing in Tempe? Why was he checking out a practice? It might be a while before Nebraska football fans or anyone else finds out.
