When it comes to Nebraska football recruiting and the Huskers’ top targets, it’s not really a surprise that Malachi Coleman is right at the top of the list. That’s why it might be more than a little concerning that the Lincoln East athlete is headed to Miami next weekend.

Coleman announced through his Twitter account that he’s going to be visiting the Hurricanes next weekend. Presumably, once the actual hurricane has moved through and the state of Florida has cleaned things up enough for travel into the region.

Obviously, it’s not a surprise in the world of Nebraska football recruiting that one of the Huskers’ top targets might be taking things in at a different school. That is, of course, something that happens with almost every recruit every year.

For Coleman, it’s a chance to get out and see another part of the country he hasn’t spent a ton of time in. It also gives him a chance to see how things are done at other schools. On paper, there might not be anything to worry about.

In reality, though, the Lincoln East prospect has gotten a front-row seat to the dysfunction that is the Nebraska football program at the moment. Even while Mickey Joseph appears to be steadying things, there are still quite a few questions surrounding the program, including who will be the next coach.

Having said all that, it still appears that the Huskers have the inside track. According to On3, there’s still a 98 percent chance that he’ll be a Nebraska football recruiting win.

Malachi Coleman still has a strong relationship with Mickey Joseph, and for now, that seems like it will win out over all other competitors. But there’s Miami, pulling up in the distant rear. Now that he’s taking an official visit, this might be the school to watch in the coming months.
