While Nebraska football target Malachi Coleman prepares for his senior year at Lincoln East, he’s also making it clear what’s important to him off the field.

The 4-star prospect who is being recruited by some of the best programs in the country is going to be an asset for whatever college he chooses and not just because of what he can do on the gridiron. He demonstrated that again on Friday night when he announced he was starting a new fundraiser that’s aimed at helping the kids in Nebraska’s foster care system.

Coleman announced the new fundraiser on his Twitter account, allowing people to purchase a replica of his football jersey.

The Nebraska football target launched an online store where people can purchase a Malachi Coleman jersey for $30 up until September 5. At that point, the store will close and two weeks later, those who place an order two weeks later.

Coleman is able to do this kind of fundraiser thanks to the loosening of rules surrounding NIL rights that has started to cascade down to the high school ranks.

This is far from the first time that the Nebraska football target has done this kind of thing. In fact, he’s launched similar efforts using the new acceptance of NIL to raise money with almost all of those funds also being aimed at his home state’s foster care system.

That system is near and dear to his heart because he himself has been a foster kid. He’s made no secret that his early years were not the easiest after his father died and his mother abandoned he and his sister at a stranger’s house.

“She said she’d be back,” Coleman once told KVC Nebraska. “I haven’t seen her since that day.”

It would be completely understandable if the 4-star wide receiver wanted to spend this fall and summer focusing on his future. After all, Coleman is considered the top player in the state for the 2023 class.

That’s meant that not only the Nebraska football team has come calling, but he’s gotten offers from the likes of USC, Georgia, and Michigan, among many others.

While it would be understandable that such an important decision on the horizon would focus on himself, Malachi Coleman is making it clear every day that understanding his standing in the community has given him a unique opportunity to help others. The Nebraska football target isn’t wasting that opportunity.
