While the Nebraska football team is trying to beat the Indiana Hoosiers on the field on Saturday, it appears that they are now going to have to beat them in recruiting as well. That’s because one of the Huskers best commits for the 2023 class, Jaidyn Doss has an offer from IU.

Normally, the Nebraska football team going up against the Hoosiers wouldn’t cause a whole lot of sweat. After all, even if the Cornhuskers have fallen on hard times, they’re still a better program in a myriad of different ways. But these aren’t normal times.

With Scott Frost being shown the door after the Cornhuskers third game of the season, keeping the 2023 class as in tact as possible is an important job for Mickey Joseph and company. To their credit, they seem to understand that fact.

Quite a bit has been made of how hard Joseph and his revamped staff have worked to keep people like Doss in the fold. That’s probably why both Joseph and defensive coordinator Bill Busch are listed as the lead recruiters for the 3-star receiver out of Missouri. It seems likely that if anyone is going to be sticking around when the new full-time coach is hired, it would be that pair.

This certainly isn’t the first competition the Nebraska football team has gotten for Doss. He boasts a total of 13 offers and most of those are from Power 5 schools. Still, he’s been considered a solid commit to the Huskers since he first announced this spring.

Of course, it’s no secret that the Husker staff that he gave his commitment to is, or will almost all be gone. While players commit to the schools, it’s unrealistic to think that if the rest of the staff Doss got to know so well is let go, he wouldn’t want to look around. Even at Indiana.
