Expect  the Nebraska football tight ends to be more involved in 2020.

You’ve heard me harp on the fact that Nebraska football needs to get the tight ends involved more in 2020. Thankfully for the offense, it seems like they are working on it.

There is no doubt that there is talent at tight end. Now, Nebraska football is trying to figure out how to use it. As a report from Chris Basnett of the Lincoln Journal Star notes, wide receivers coach Matt Lubick is working on trying to get the tight end position more looks.

More from Husker Corner

It’s no secret that Nebraska football ignored the tight ends for the most part last season. This is a position group that I feel was extremely underutilized. When the tight ends had a chance to make plays, they did. Not only did they make plays, they made big plays. Many of the plays were usually up the seam or on a streak route. It sounds like that may change in 2020.

"“Some of the things that he’s brought to the table is making sure that we have tight end targets. And we’ve changed some things up to where the read goes first to the tight ends as opposed to being in a situation where it was maybe a last outlet,” Beckton explained. “We’re running a lot of the same plays that Coach Frost had and has always envisioned, but we’re getting to them in a lot of other ways.”"

Over the summer, you heard Nebraska football want to get the tight ends more involved in the red zone. Now it seems like that has evolved into getting the tight ends more looks in general. When used correctly, the tight end can be a huge part of the offense. They can block, they can be big playmakers, and that they allow the quarterback a security blanket. Hopefully, we will be able to see the tight ends used in all of those capacities.

I love the fact that Nebraska football is trying to make an effort to utilize the tight ends, and is devising ways to specifically get them involved. This is what Nebraska needed to do last year. It’s also what I believe Matt Lubick brings to the table. He is one of the best young offensive minds in the country. With the talent that these tight ends have, he should be able to help them break out in a big way.

dark. Next. Bold predictions for the tight ends

If the tight ends can be reliable targets, that will just add yet another layer to the Nebraska football offense. I can’t wait to see how they are added and what type of formations they come out in. it could be a very fun year offensively.
