Nebraska football got a commitment on Monday.

It’s always nice when I have the power to speak things into existence, especially for Nebraska football recruiting. If only it were that easy all the time.

Sunday, I wrote an article about how safety Koby Bretz would be a nice fit for the Nebraska football program and also allow the program to land another kid from the state in the 2021 class.

Monday, Bretz committed to the program. He is not ranked in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but he is considered a three-star recruit with an 82 overall numerical rating in the 247Sports regular rankings.

There is no doubt that the safety is flying under the radar. When you look at how his length allows him to make plays and how aggressive he is, it seems like he would be a perfect fit for the Nebraska football defense. Nebraska, especially over the past couple of seasons, has had their fair share of lengthy and athletic corners and defensive backs. Now, they have another athletic safety.

When you take a look at how the landscape of college football is changing, the defensive players need to be almost as athletic as offensive players.

They need to be able to cover, they need to be able to make hits, and they need to be able to react quickly. Bretz certainly covers all of the bases there. He is not a big-time recruit but I feel like he will be able to get the job done. As I’ve said before, I don’t really care about star ratings anyway.

This was a big commitment for Nebraska in the sense that this could be the beginning of a big-time recruiting week. A certain tight end is set to make his decision on Wednesday. Nebraska figures to be in the thick of things in his recruitment. Adding him and Bretz would be an awesome week, especially when you consider the interesting state of recruiting right now.

It always seems like Scott Frost and his coaching staff have something up their sleeves. I’ll be interested to see what happens over the course of the next week or so, especially as the program continues to look for a tight end. That to me is the next big piece in the equation for Nebraska. Once that happens, I have a feeling more dominoes will fall.

It’s very common to hate Mondays, and I don’t blame you. This Monday however certainly had some good news to it.
