Fingers are crossed for Nebraska football.

In case any of you did not hear, 2021 four-star tight end Thomas Fidone is set to make his decision about where he is going to call home for his collegiate football career. August 26 will be his decision date. So far, four schools in particular are vying for his services. Nebraska, LSU, Iowa, and Michigan are the schools in question.

The tight end has been connected to Nebraska football for what seems like forever. Most recently, he took a recruiting visit with some top Nebraska commits and prospects. Now, we finally get an idea of when he is going to decide his collegiate future.

For me, it’s going to be a competition between Nebraska football and LSU. Fidone has been connected to LSU over the past couple of weeks as well. From there, I think it will be a tossup.

Due to the Tigers coming off a national championship and the prestige that comes along with the SEC, I truly think the Tigers have as good an advantage at landing him as anybody. However, there is no doubt that Nebraska has been pushing hard for his services.

In any event, a commitment from Fidone would completely transform the tight end position for Nebraska. I’ve talked about how he is almost like a wide receiver, and how his speed lends itself to his ability to stretch the field. He would give the program the weapon at the tight end position they have been looking for.

More importantly, he would give Nebraska football some prestige in recruiting. Nebraska landing a four-star recruit may open the doors for other high-profile recruits to come to Lincoln. If Fidone has a good season, that could work in Nebraska’s favor, and help other recruits realize that Nebraska could potentially develop tight end talent.

In any event, Nebraska football will be watching August 26 closely. Here’s to hoping that the Huskers can land him, and continue the good streak of recruiting they have had over the course of the summer. Especially with the circumstances that 2020 has brought all of us, landing a stud like Fidone would certainly make things a whole heck of a lot better.
