Kudos to the Nebraska football headman.

By now you’ve heard that Nebraska football landed a commitment on Sunday in Kamonte Grimes. The three-star athlete from Florida should definitely be able to help Nebraska at the wide receiver position.

Grimes is the 37th overall athlete in his class, and the 79th overall player in his class from the state of Florida per the  247Sports composite rankings. He was recruited to the Huskers by wide receiver coach Matt Lubick. For his part, Lubick has been having a great summer of his own. He has certainly played his role in several recruitments.

Aside from that, Grimes indicated that one of his main reasons for committing to the Nebraska football program was Scott Frost. In an interview with 247Sports on Sunday night, Grimes indicated that Frost was the reason he chose to come to Lincoln.

"“I called up Coach Frost about 7:30 pm (EST) and let him know I was 110 percent committed to the University of Nebraska,” Grimes started in. “Thats where I wanted to go. He was really excited.“When it came down to it, it was between them and Michigan, both of them had everything I wanted and it came down to who won me over. Coach Frost won me over. Having conversations with him and everything like that, I knew I wanted to play over there and be a Cornhusker.”"

This to me is significant because Frost has ties to Florida, and has taken his lumps recently in recruiting. It’s good to know that Frost played a role in getting Grimes to come, and signals to me that the coach has a vision for where he wants to go with the 2021 class. We have seen several wideouts commit to the program. It seems like Nebraska wants to get those playmakers for the ‘21 class. However, aside from just being wide receivers and playmakers, this also signifies to me that Frost still can sway people to the Nebraska football program.

It remains to be seen how good Grimes will be for the program. He is a 6-foot-2 receiver, and Frost and his staff have wanted to get bigger wideouts. From everything I’ve seen in terms of highlights for Grimes, he is exactly what Nebraska needs moving forward. They certainly have favored smaller slot receivers over the years, but now it appears that is shifting. They want big, athletic playmakers, and Grimes certainly fits that the criteria.

It’s great to hear that Frost was able to seal the deal for an impact player. One has to wonder if Frost will continue to have an impact on this class, as recruiting continues.
