Nebraska football recruits took matters into their own hands last weekend.

Nebraska football  peer recruiting is in full swing. According to a report from the Omaha World-Herald, Seth Malcolm, Henrich Haarberg and Teddy Prozchaka took 2021 top tight end Thomas Fidone on a recruiting visit.

Fidone is the second overall tight end in the 2020 class, and the top player in his class from the state of Iowa per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Per Evan Bland, Fidone stayed at the Prozchaka home on Friday night, and then hit the road with Prozchaka, Henrich Haarberg, Henry Lutovsky, and Seth Malcolm. As Bland notes, this was a plan thought of earlier in the week.

In addition to those who initially traveled with the tight end, the group also met up with Bryce Benhart, Turner Corcoran and Garrett Snodgrass.

To me, this is a definition of a full-court press. The Nebraska football commits took matters into their own hands, and scheduled a visit with Fidone. This is awesome, and it should really speak to how close this particular group is with each other.

You hear me talk about how Nebraska football recruits are tweeting at each other all the time to come to Lincoln. This is an example of the type of community that these next couple classes are fostering.

Especially with so many commitments up in the air, a visit like this could leave a lasting impression.

When you think about the fact that there are no recruiting visits allowed, and the fact that campus visits have stopped, this was a genius idea on their part. If you really want a recruit to commit to the program, you need to be able to show them that you are close with each other. All of the big names in terms of Nebraska football recruiting came out and put on a show for Fidone.

If I was a recruit, this would mean more to me than any normal campus visit. This shows to me that the players want me here, and they consider me part of the family already. it’s not really a secret that Nebraska wants the tight end. I’ve said I want the tight end, fans have said they want the tight end, and now it appears that the players are really trying to get the tight end to come to Lincoln.

Who knows if their efforts will pay off. However, you can’t fault the players for trying. With how recruiting visits are often very rigid, you can probably assume that Fidone will remember this one for a while.
