The Nebraska football team has seen a number of targets start to talk about when they are picking their schools.
Nebraska could be getting a spate of commits in the coming weeks, should everything go right. Stephon Wright is one of three Husker targets that have pinned a date for when they will be pinned down and announcing their commitments.
Unlike Armauni Archie, who said he’ll announce Friday, or Wandale Robinson who said he’s announcing on November 1, Wright hasn’t set an exact date. What the defensive end did say is he will be announcing his pick next month. It stands to reason it will be in the first part of November.
Wright has been on the radar of the Cornhuskers for quite a while now. There’s good reason for that to be the case.
Rated as a 4-star prospect by 247’s composite rankings, he’s the 16th best strongside end on the board. He’s also the 32nd best player in the entire state of California. That puts him just inside 247’s top 250 players at number 249.
It’s not a surprise that he’s already amassed 23 offers. Just where he might be leaning is a bit of a mystery when you consider where he has taken an official visit so far.
While most recruiting services have him as a heavy USC lean, his official visits have been spent on Colorado, Arizona State and Illinois. The good news is that means he’s not necessarily needing to play for a program contending for a National Title right away.
Nebraska is still very much on the outside looking in at this point. It’s possible his announcement of an official commitment date could spur the Huskers into pressing Wright.
One thing is for certain. If there happens to be a school the Nebraska football team would rather he not go, it would have to be Illinois. Losing out on a talented player always stings. Losing out to a lesser Big Ten West rival would flat out hurt.
