The defending national champion Nebraska volleyball team suffered a season-opening loss on Friday. On Saturday, they bounced back in straight sets.
The Nebraska volleyball team didn’t start off the season the way they hoped. On Friday night, the team was manhandled in a rematch of last year’s National Championship match.
While the Cornhuskers were able to topple Florida last year, they couldn’t do the same yesterday. The Gators ended up winning three sets to one.
On Saturday evening, the Huskers got into the win column for the first time in the 2018 season. They did it by sweeping the 18th ranked Oregon Ducks in straight sets.

No, they didn’t blow the Ducks away, but any time you can take out a Top 25 opponent without allowing them a set, you’re definitely doing something right. The Huskers might be revamped a bit, but it appears that they are already looking like a team that is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
Before you get nervous about the three sets to one loss to Florida to open the season, recall how the Cornhuskers opened 2017. Last season, they started out 0-2.
The two teams they lost to? Oregon, three sets to one and then Florida. The team lost two matches the rest of the way. They didn’t lose a match after October 11.
What does that tell us about this year’s version of the Nebraska volleyball team? Not really anything.
Florida and Oregon are also different teams this year. What we do know is the Huskers are still one of the most talented teams in the country and they’ve got a long way to go until they really have to hit their stride.
