The Nebraska football team’s recruiting rankings had hit a bit of a slide the last few weeks, but three commits for the 2019 class have reversed that trend.

In the last week, the Nebraska football team has scored the commitment of two defensive tackles and an inside linebacker for the 2019 class. Before you even look at the recruiting rankings, you know that’s a very good thing for this program.

Then you look at the national recruiting rankings and you suddenly realize the team really has something going for it right now. From about the middle of June, to the middle of July, other teams, especially in the Big Ten had been having a very good month.

Those other teams having success saw the Huskers drop in the total team rankings. The Cornhuskers got as low as 38th on Rivals’ rankings.

That drop was after the Huskers had started pulling themselves up thanks to a similar spate of commits at the beginning of June. 247Sports is really where Scott Frost and company have shown their work.

AT the last checkin, the Huskers were ranked 30th. Today, they are holding a spot inside the Top 25, at number 24. Interestingly, that site has the Big Ten all doing rather well so far this cycle.

Michigan State, Purdue, Minnesota, and Nebraska are 21, 22, 23, and 24 in their rankings. Because the conference as a whole is having big success, the Big Red are currently seventh in the conference as far as points. That’s still a jump of three spots in recent weeks.

Rivals don’t have them in the Top 25 yet, but the Huskers are up to number 28. Here too, Nebraska is ranked a shockingly low eighth in the conference, but that really does appear to be due more to the Big Ten having a heck of a run than poor recruiting.

Having said that, Purdue and Minnesota having great recruiting cycles is a bad thing for the Nebraska football team in the long run. At least as long as those recruiting cycles are better than what Frost’s crew can put up.

Conventional wisdom says sooner or later both those teams will drop below the Huskers. Their average star per recruit says the same.
