As the Journal Star reports his speed is what is going to continue to draw Logan Smothers attention. It’s likely what got the Nebraska recruiting coordinator’s attention.

When the quarterback visited Ohio State last month, he reportedly ran a 4.48 40-yard dash. That’s not the only reason people think the kid has got wheels.

Smothers also qualified for the Alabama state track meet in the 400 meters as a freshman in high school. He ran the 100 meters (and ran it well) last year.

He’s run the ball extremely well in football too. His freshman year he ran for 468 yards and six touchdowns to go along with a 4.0 yards per carry average.

The good news is that he got quite a bit better, as he rushed for 719 yards and eight touchdowns last season. His YPC bumped up to 6.5.

That doesn’t mean he can’t throw the rock. His Athens high school runs an offense quite similar to what Scott Frost ran at UCF and will run for the Nebraska football team.

When it comes to Nebraska recruiting, the coaches have been clear they are looking for players that fit their system above all else. Logan Smothers does just that. The question is whether he’ll ultimately come here.
