Nebraska recruiting for 2020 is in full swing and it looks as though the Huskers might have one of their top quarterback targets locked in.

When it comes to Nebraska recruiting, the Huskers have their quarterback for the 2019 class. It’s looking more and more likely that Luke McCaffrey is going to be the only QB taken in this class.

If the Nebraska football team does only get one quarterback this go-round, it’s more likely they’ll be looking at two in the 2020 class. That works out just fine for most Husker fans who would love to get their paws on Cornhusker legacy case Jake Garcia.

Whether or not Nebraska can land Garcia, it looks as though another talented player could be calling out a Husker commit and it appears it might be sooner than people expect.

Logan Smothers, a current 3-star prospect from Alabama is loving what he’s seeing from Scott Frost and company. That’s great news considering it’s safe to say he hadn’t really given the Cornhuskers much thought before this spring.

Smothers told the Al.com back in June he was surprised Frost had ever heard of him. “I was very surprised, at first, because it’s Nebraska and how far away they are, and then because it’s coach (Scott) Frost and the success he had at Central Florida. It’s very humbling.”

Smothers only has one Power 5 offer at the moment. That’s despite the fact that he’s rated as the 13th best dual-threat quarterback in the country by 247Sports Composite.

That one Power 5 offer is from the Nebraska football team. From everything he’s said, it appears getting their foot in the door early has helped their chances.

Smothers is getting attention from Ohio State and coaches from both schools have compared him to a young Marcus Mariotta. That’s especially interesting considering Frost coached Mariotta. It’s no wonder why Nebraska recruiting efforts have zeroed in on Smothers.
