Nebraska football got itself a very big commit on Monday afternoon when quarterback Luke McCaffrey announced he was going to be wearing the Big Red.

When it comes to Nebraska football’s newest commit in Luke McCaffrey, there is definitely cause to be excited. It’s not just because Scott Frost and company landed this class’ quarterback.

The fact of the matter is there is at least one other quarterback the Cornhuskers would like to add out there. What is really exciting about this particular commit is what it shows about where the program is headed.

Keep in mind that 60 days ago, the 2019 recruiting class was pretty barren. The only commits the school had for this class were three Nebraska kids.

It’s certainly nice to keep the in-state talent at home but in order to be a real contender for anything, you’re going to need to draw people from other parts of the country in.

Fast forward 60 days and all of the sudden the 2019 Husker class has grown from three, to seven with a nice smattering of talent from both coasts and the middle of the country too.

Of course, making the class, that is already ranked 32nd in the country by 247Sports better isn’t the biggest reason why getting this kid was a big deal. He’s a talented quarterback who is going to compete for the starting job before his days in Lincoln are numbered.

But back to the bigger picture, McCaffery’s commitment on Monday also continued what has been a heck of a couple of days for the Nebraska football program and the athletic department in general.

So just what else can we take away from the commitment of Luke McCaffrey to the Nebraska football team? Here’s some more information you should know about the newest Husker commit.
