Nebraska recruiting has its work cut out when it comes to the St. Louis wide receiver target.

The Nebraska recruiting approach for Jordan Johnson was to get the Huskers’ foot in the door as soon as possible. While we don’t know whether that will work or not, it sure seems to be the right approach.

Johnson is getting more attention from other Power 5 teams all the time. This weekend, he took a visit to Ohio State.

That’s bad news for a Cornhuskers team that is hoping to lock down what could end up being the best receiver in the 2020 class. It was likely wishful thinking that Ohio State would stay away.

Still, the Huskers likely hoped that Johnson would be taking an unofficial visit to Lincoln before he took in what OSU had to offer. Johnson was originally offered by Mike Riley but Scott Frost and his staff reoffered this winter.

Now that the wide receiver is up to 17 offers, it’s possible the Nebraska football team is being left in the dust a bit. It would be a real shame if that was the case, considering Johnson is in the Cornhuskers’ own backyard.

Missouri is a talent-rich state. It’s also a state most of the staff has at least a passing relationship with.

At the moment, he’s considered the top player in the state of Missouri by 247Sports and Rivals. Rivals has him rated as the eighth best receiver in the class while 247Sports has him as the 12th best.

The four-star prospect has offers from plenty of FBS powerhouse teams. That includes Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida and Penn State in addition to Ohio State and Nebraska.

If the Cornhuskers want to rise to the top of the heap, they’re going to need to get Jordan Johnson in for a visit sooner rather than later. The Nebraska recruiting effort now needs to be showing him Lincoln is a better option than Columbus, South Bend or Tuscaloosa.
