Nebraska football: Nash Hutmacher is latest two-sport athlete to receive Husker offer

The Nebraska football team has been making a habit of offering two-sport athletes.

The Nebraska football team offered South Dakota 2020 prospect Nash Hutmacher on Saturday. That offer stands out not only because the Cornhuskers have offered yet another offensive lineman, but they’ve offered yet another two-sport star.

Hutmacher is keeping a bit of a low profile when it comes to football. Rivals and 247Sports are still both a bit confused as to how to handle him as a gridiron prospect.

Where the player has excelled has been in the world of wrestling. In that particular sport, he’s thought of as one of the best in the country at the high school level.

It’s not hard to think how his ability to win a ton of wrestling matches might translate to the football field. It’s also not hard to think about getting one of the best wrestlers in the country might help the athletic department in general.

Scott Frost and his crew have been sticking to a bit of a theme this week. Over the last week, the Huskers have offered a player that would be an asset to the baseball team and another that would be a heck of a get for the basketball team.

While Frost hasn’t, and can’t comment on whether or not he’d actually allow any of these recruits to do two sports, there might be a tipoff from his staff. Matt Davison, who played with Frost back in the day, is now a member of the athletic department.

During his playing days, he spent time on both the Nebraska football and Nebraska basketball team. If there’s anyone in the department these days who knows the time and effort it takes to excel in dual-sports it would be him. He might be able to impart that wisdom to his coworkers when it comes to Nash Hutmacher and the others.
