Nebraska football fans will finally be able to coach the virtual Huskers again as a new college football video game is on the horizon.
It’s been quite a while since Nebraska football fans could play as their favorite player, or pretend they were a great coach leading their favorite team into gridiron glory. The NCAA football video game series’ last release was in 2013, with NCAA Football ’14.
While that series is still dead, there is another one that is looking to take its place on consoles in 2020. IMackulate Vision Gaming has announced it will be launching Gridiron Champions sometime in 2020, though a day and month for the release is not yet known.
From everything I’ve seen so far about the game, it’s going to look and play quite a bit like the now long dead NCAA Football series from EA Sports. The big difference is that Gridiron Champions will be getting around the licensing problems that eventually convinced Electronic Arts to back away from the franchise.
The game’s development team is getting around those issues by making 126 fictional teams, all playing in fictional conferences. The player names will be fake as well.

The good news, for those who want to recreate the Cornhuskers in the game, is that the game will be quite customizable, so you can call whatever the in-game version of Nebraska is, Nebraska.
One big difference between NCAA Football and Gridiron Champions is that there isn’t going to be the same kind of mirroring of uniforms or stadium atmosphere, as the new title is going to have to make sure to stay away from that sort of thing.

If you’re someone who has just been dying to be able to take over the Nebraska football team on a video game console again, it appears Gridiron Champions is aiming to scratch that itch. Barring any setbacks, it will be coming in 2020 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
