The Nebraska volleyball team proved the theory about the rich getting richer as it landed what was once the top volleyball prospect in the country. Even better is that Scott Frost helped.

If you thought Scott Frost was only helping lift up the Nebraska football team, you were wrong. It turns out that Frost wants to make sure the Nebraska volleyball team can be as good as possible as well.

The news of the transfer of former Texas volleyball star Lexi Sun has just hit the web and that news would be good enough on most days. Sun, the best volleyball prospect in the 2017 class is leaving the Longhorns after one season.

She has been officially released from her scholarship and according to Nebraska will be eligible to play next season. Yes, that means one of the best prospects in all of college vollyeball is joining the reigning national championships.

So how did coach John Cook pull this particular rabbit out of his hat? It turns out he did it with a little help from Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost.

The Omaha World Herald’s Sam McKewon reports that Cook credited Frost with an assist. Cook says Frost and Matt Davison showed up at a dinner with Sun and her family. That was apparently the icing on the cake in getting the outside hitter to come to Lincoln.

Most who follow the college volleyball world consider the Huskers getting this player quite the coup, as most thought she might return home to California. It can’t be overstated enough just how good a player they are getting, even if she struggled a bit down the stretch in her freshman year.

Lexi Sun opened her Longhorns career with an 11-kill night and she averaged 3.27 kills per game on the season, which was second on Texas. Those numbers helped her win freshman of the week for three times in the Big 12 and also landed her on the All-Big 12 team.

Once Texas made the tournament, Sun saw less and less playing time in the school’s four wins. It’s possible this played into her decision to leave the school.

Whatever reason she is here, Lexi Sun is now a member of the defending National Champion Nebraska volleyball team and the Nebraska football head coach had a bit of a hand in getting here.
