Yet another former Nebraska football star has got himself a new NFL contract.
Yet another former Nebraska football star has found himself a new NFL home. Offensive lineman Spencer Long has moved from the Washington Redskins to the New York Jets.
The new signing was officially announced by the Jets on Sunday afternoon, ironically enough. The NFL free agent period has been an active one.
Former Cornhuskers have been among those who have been moving and shaking the last week. First there was Niles Paul, who moved from the Redskins to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It appears the ‘Skins are having a bit of a rebuild as Long has now departed as well. Then there’s Ndamukong Suh, who is thoroughly enjoying being a free agent.

Long lands on the Jets after spending the last few years as a starting lineman for the Redskins. It appears injury problems might have led to Washington allowing him to depart.
Fox Sports believes that despite those injuries, the former Nebraska football star will be the starting center for the Jets next season. After seeing plenty of playing time his first two years in the league, he appeared in just seven games last season.
The injuries were numerous and varied but it was a quadriceps injury that finally finished the season for him in week 12. While contract terms haven’t been announced it’s a bit of a win for the Nebraska football team. The program can use all the pros to point to for recruits it can get.
