Nebraska football: How the Huskers are performing at the NFL Combine
Drew Brown is trying to keep the Nebraska football tradition alive.
It’s odd to think about, but the Nebraska football program has been a kind of NFL factory when it comes to kickers and punters. Quite a few former Huskers have gone onto at least a few years of pro football.
Unfortunately, it looks as though Drew Brown might not be able to follow in his countrymen’s footsteps. While Brown is a tough kid, it is appearing as though NFL scouts just don’t think he has the leg to make it.
At the moment, he is grading out at 4.88. That’s actually a bit of good news, as it means that they think he should make an NFL training camp. It doesn’t appear as though they believe he’s going to actually catch on with a team.

While the scouts haven’t been able to talk enough about Brown’s willingness to get into the thick of it, and appears to be a good tackler, it’s his inability for long kickoffs which is likely going to hold him back.
He also doesn’t appear to have a booming leg. The scouts have pointed out, more than once, that he doesn’t have a good percentage when attempting a kick outside of 50 yards.
It’s unclear whether or not he might be able to catch on with some team who is looking to carry two kickers. There are still a few around. He’s got good accuracy and doesn’t get kicks blocked very often. That might be enougn to get a look from someone, but it doesn’t appear the former Nebraska football kicker is raising eyebrows or covincing anyone that he belongs as “the” kicker on an NFL team.
