More tempering of expectations for the Nebraska football team

While there are plenty of people who think the Nebraska football team’s addition of Scott Frost was the “best of the class,” almost everyone is making sure Husker fans know they shouldn’t expect much this season.

Sporting News’ came right out and said that Frost would be doing a heck of a job if the Cornhuskers boasted eight wins when all was said and done. The publication points out things we’ve heard before:

“But the road Big Ten schedules includes trips to Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern and Ohio State. Who made that schedule? Eight wins would be a successful season.”

More from Nebraska Football

That’s stil something Cornhusker fans aren’t keen on hearing either. More than a few are expecting  a dramatic turnaround. It needs to be pointed out that a four game turnaround would be pretty dramatic.

It’s not wrong to look at someone like Oregon as the model for that turnaround. Like the Huskers last year, Oregon went 4-8 in 2016. Last year they went 7-6.

No, Nebraska football fans wouldn’t be particularly happy with a 7-6 record. Maybe they should be. Almost everyone who is paid to know better knows that the Huskers are going to be in for a bumpy ride with a schedule that Bleacher Report says is the toughest in the country.
