Those expecting the Nebraska football team to show immediate improvement might be in for a surprise.

When Scott Frost took over the Nebraska football team, there were quite a few people who talked about they thought he could stage an immediate turnaround. Despite the fact that the Cornhuskers went 4-8 last season, some appear to think a 10 win season is on the horizon.

Bleacher Report has put out what it feels are the 10 hardest schedules for 2018 and the Huskers are right at the top. In fact, the top three spots on the list are all from the Big Ten.

While Nebraska is number one, Rutgers is second and the Michigan Wolverines are third. As the publication points out, the Huskers would be hard pressed to play a tougher conference schedule.

“The Cornhuskers will travel to Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Ohio State and Iowa next season, only hosting Michigan State.” The website said. Even the home games, against Minnesota and Purdue aren’t as easy as they might have been most years.

Illinois might be the only “gimme” game on the Cornhuskers’ B1G schedule. The interesting thing will be to see what shape Nebraska is in when it gets to conference play.

While the names on the non-conference slate aren’t intimidating, none are cupcakes. Akron, who the Huskers open the season against might be a MAC squad, but they are a MAC squad that went to the conference title game and a bowl this past season.

The Huskers’ week three opponent, Troy had likely the best season in school history a year ago. Not only did they go 11-2 and win the Sun Belt but they beat LSU 24-21.

Of the teams on the non-conference schedule, only Colorado missed a bowl game thanks to a 2-7 conference record. Considering that’s the same team that won 10 games in 2016 and you’ve got to think they could surprise some people.

The moral of this story is that if Scott Frost can work wonders and put together a good record, he’s done a heck of a job. But as Bleacher Report points out, Nebraska football fans expecting 10 wins are probably being overly optimistic.
