Nebraska football: Magazine calls Scott Frost hire the best of the class
Athlon is the latest magazine that believes Scott Frost was absolutely the right hire for the Nebraska football team.
When Scott Frost was announced as the new hire for the Nebraska football team, Cornhusker fans everywhere rejoiced. In the days following the hire, plenty of national media made it clear that they too thought it was a good move.
Athlon is the latest national media outlet that has made it clear they like Frost’s hiring. The publication laid out the grades for all the new coaching hires and Frost was at the top of the list.
In explaining why the magazine gave the hire an A+ it said, “it doesn’t get much more perfect than Frost at Nebraska. The Nebraska native and former Cornhusker quarterback returns to his home state after a successful two-year stint at UCF.”

Athlon also pointed out that Frost knows what it takes to succeed in Lincoln. The publication says that the Huskers needed to make a big splash of a hire in order to close the gap on teams like Ohio State and Penn State and that this one will “certainly do that.”
When looking at other hires that got top grades on the list, UCLA and Florida both scored just below the Huskers. Dan Mullen’s onboarding with the Gators and Chip Kelly joining the Bruins were both nice moves for the collective schools.
Both of those moves were given A grades. Jimbo Fisher and Willie Taggart got their schools A- grades when they moved to Texas A&M and Florida State respectively.
When looking at the the moves that got less than glowing reviews from Athlon, Scott Frost’s former school is near the bottom. UCF’s hiring of Josh Heupel scored a C, with the caveat that it’s a nice hire but far from a slam dunk.
On the opposite end of the grading curve from the Nebraska football team, Arizona State had the worst reviewed hire of the coaching carousel. Plenty of people, we here at Husker Corner included, were scratching our heads when the Sun Devils hired Herm Edwards. That move really does appear to be the polar opposite of pulling the trigger on Scott Frost.
