Nebraska football fans got a reminder that Husker targets are human from a York school administrator.

By now, most Nebraska football fans have heard that York defensive lineman Masry Mapieu appears unlikely to be signing with the Huskers on Wednesday. Since the news broke, there have been a few fans that have taken things a bit harder than they should.

Talk of Mapieu likely heading to a junior college also had some Husker fans going over the line when talking about him. That prompted York Schools Superintendent Mike Lukas to take to Twitter to defend his student.

Lukas issued a message that Cornhusker fans should not only take to heart when it comes to Mapieu but other players the team is recruiting and will be recruiting in the future. In particular, the superintendent made it clear that Mapieu has been a standout person at York.

Lukas talked about the fact that Masry has been someone who has helped other players at York High. He’s gotten up early in the morning and put in extra work.

Lukas finished the post with “he’s a leader and a nice kid. I can’t wait to see what he does and where he goes. Please don’t talk negatively about a kid you know nothing about.”

That last part is one that people need to keep in mind as we get closer and closer to signing day. While its normal to be disappointed about players not making it to Nebraska, it’s just never okay to attack those that decide they don’t want to be part of the movement.

The Nebraska football program is going to be fine with Masry Mapieu. Mapieu will likely be fine without the Huskers. It’s possible to move on without firing insults at a young man just looking to make his future.
