Mike Williams finally got a scholarship offer from the Nebraska football and he now has the Huskers at or near the top of his list of schools.

The Nebraska football team offered yet another Junior College stud on Sunday afternoon. Mike Williams, a wide receiver from the East Mississippi Community College told Husker Corner that he has the Huskers as his top school at the moment.

This is good news for the Cornhuskers, especially considering Williams has already graduated from his JUCO and can sign with another team at any time. When it comes to deciding where he’s going to go, Williams told Husker Corner that he expects to make a decision in the “next few days.”

While Williams hasn’t been getting alot of hits from the Power 5 schools, he does have quite a few offers from smaller FBS programs. Going after players that might not be greatly heralded but plenty talented appears to be Scott Frost’s M.O. for the Nebraska football program since the early signing period.

The JUCO ranks are also some depths the new coaching staff clearly has no problem plumbing. Should their last two JUCO offers, who are both Husker leans should end up committing to Nebraska, they would be the 5th and 6th members of the 2018 class that came from the Junior College ranks.

That’s a pretty big ratio of non-highschoolers in a class that would sit around 16. It’s unclear whether this is the kind of approach is something they plan on continuing past 2018.

As a general rule, an approach that will fill the roster quickly is a one year fix. At the same time, Frost and his group have shown they have no problem filling gaps wherever they see them.

As for Williams, he certainly fits a profile the new staff loves. While he was the fourth option as a receiver for the infamous Last Chance U, he’s clearly got some speed.

Williams had 30 receptions in 2017. He turned those 30 catches into 669 yards and seven touchdowns. Those numbers are impressive enough before you even take a look at the fact that he averaged 22.3 yards per catch.

When you consider the other JUCO receiver they already have in the fold is considered blazing fast, it’s clear the Nebraska football program is going after a type. When he talked to Husker Corner, Mike Williams wasn’t sure when he was going to be getting a visit to Lincoln in.

Rivals.com reports that he now plans on visiting the Nebraska football team this weekend. With the receiver planning on announcing his pick soon, one can hope he’ll be part of the new regime by Sunday.
