The Nebraska football team is clearly in the market for another quarterback. What about Kentucky graduate transfer Drew Barker?

The Nebraska football team has made no secret about the fact that it’s looking for a quarterback. Adrian Martinez is a dual-threat QB that signed in December but it appears the Huskers are looking for at least one more.

There have been a number of high school freshmen who have received offers over the last few weeks. Could someone like Drew Barker be a fit instead?

Barker announced a while back that he was going to be transferring from the University of Kentucky. Because he’s a graduate transfer, he’d be able to play right away.

If the Cornhuskers are looking at adding some more bodies to the roster, it seems like Barker could at least be a backup plan. There are a couple of big questions that come along with recruiting Barker.

The first is whether or not he’d be willing to come to a program where he wasn’t guaranteed to start. It doesn’t seem as though Scott Frost is going to be offering the starting job to anyone before there’s a bit of a competition.

That’s a plus for the new head coach because he can start with a clean slate and not be accused of playing favorites. It can also hamper recruiting of QBs to some extent.

Before Martinez committed, it seems like he might have been good enough to be asking for guarantees of that nature. The fact that he’s coming off an injury is one reason why he apparently hasn’t. He also appears to be a good kid who isn’t afraid of competition.

Having not looked into Barker’s situation much, it’s unclear exactly why he’s leaving. Was the commitment of Terry Wilson the catalyst? Was he told he’d already lost the starting job for 2018?
