The Nebraska football team has made it clear they want at least one more quarterback in the 2018 class. That was shown again with an offer to Mike Barrett.

The Nebraska football team is looking high and low for dual-threat quarterbacks. Mike Barrett is the 4th or 5th player that matches that profile since Scott Frost was named Huskers’ head coach.

The staff is still hunting for those dual-threat quarterbacks despite the fact they’ve already got their top target. Adrian Martinez signed during the early period in December but it’s Frost and company are trying to change the roster profile for the position quickly.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this offer is that Rivals has Barrett ranked as an athlete, rather than a quarterback. That’s despite the fact that film on Barrett shows a guy who has pretty good touch and a pretty good arm.

That would seem to indicate that Barrett is yet another guy who is going to be brought in for his speed. Once he’s here, it appears Frost and company are going to let the chips fall where they may.

Nebraska has some top-notch competition for the Valdosta, Georgia player. Michigan, Maryland and LSU are among the teams that are chasing after Barrett. The three-star prospect took an official visit to the Wolverines in December and he’s got one to Georgia Tech coming up next week.

Beyond that, it appears he has a few openings left for visits before February signing day. Obviously, since Mike Barrett just announced he had been offered by the Nebraska football team, he hasn’t yet said when he will be visiting Lincoln.
