The Nebraska volleyball team will host Stony Brook and then the winner of Florida State vs  Washington State.

The good news for Nebraska volleyball fans is that at first glance, it appears the Huskers have a relatively easy path to the sweet sixteen of the NCAA tournament at least. The Cornhuskers will open that tournament against Stony Brook on Friday, December 1, at 8:00 PM.

Should they manage to record the expected win, they will take on the winner of the Florida State/ Washington State matchup that will take place earlier that day. The first two rounds of the tournament in the Huskers bracket will take place in Lincoln.

Nebraska has been named the 5th overall seed, a bit of a slight for a team that dominated all comers this year. On the flip side, Penn State is the number one national seed. This despite the fact the Huskers beat the Nittany Lions in the teams’ only matchup. the Cornhuskers also won the Big Ten title over Penn State.

Knowing all that, it does seem as though the Nebraska volleyball team got a raw deal. They’ll now be able to show they deserved a better seeding. Neither Stony Brook, Florida State or Washington State are top of the line opponents.

Stoney Brook, playing the America East conference finished the year 18-12. Florida State posted an 18-10 record and Washington State went 17-15. Should the Huskers get out of the second round, they will take on the winners of quartet headlined by a former Big 12 opponent.

The Baylor Bears are the top seed in the feeder bracket below the one the Huskers lead. Baylor finished the regular season with a 23-6 record and is the #12 national seed.
