Husker Rifle Team: Meet Alex Lorentz

Husker Rifle team is busy preparing for their postseason. Their first stop is NCAA Qualifiers after a couple weeks off of duals. We caught up with the ladies who give “10” a whole other meaning. You’ve already met Lauren, Rachel, Jaycee, Maggie and Denise.
Junior Alexandrea (Alex) Lorentz is from Anchorage, Alaska. She is majoring in Political science and Sociology. She’s thinking about attending law school and is an only child. When she goes back home after summer her job is working in the retail shop at the Hard Rock. She likes to go home and save up money. After college she is hoping to do a little travelling and move back closer to home.

I asked her what the reaction is from people when they find out she is on the Rifle team. “They think it’s pretty bad ass and they are curious as to why I chose to go to school and compete in Nebraska. They have a misperception about what it’s really like here, in Lincoln.”
Favorite Gun: “My Dad owns a lot and I like to go out to the range and he’ll bring his .22 handgun. I like that one. I also went to the state capital, Juneau and got to shoot a .45 which was a lot of fun too.”
Favorite music: “I don’t have a favorite I play before I shoot, it just depends. Every match is different. I hit play on my ipod and if I don’t like what comes up, I just skip it.”
Her competition ritual: “I don’t really have one. I try to look at each competition match as a reset.”

Favorite Movie: Inglorious Bastards was good and Brad Pitt was too. I prefer popcorn and the theater over candy or a rental.
Favorite shooting venue: “I like South Carolina. That’s really more about the fact it’s by the ocean.”
Best shooting moment: “Probably before college when I was doing well in high school. It was awesome how happy and proud it made my parents to see me do well in competition.”
Favorite sports persona: “I don’t really have one.”
Other than Rifle, what other sports do you enjoy doing for fun? “I like playing sand volleyball with the other rifle team girls.”
What are your thoughts about the uniform? A: “Best thing is that it gives you a great boxy look. Yeah, I’m just kidding about that part. The best thing is the red, black and white design is cool, but when it gets hot on the range it’s not breathable at all.”

I asked her if there was anything she would want me to relate to the readers. Alex said, “I would like to give a shout out to my parents, Jennifer and Pat Lorentz on their 19th wedding anniversary. It’s on Valentine’s Day.”

Fun fact (something that made me giggle): Q: Which is your preferred shooting position? A: “Prone is probably my favorite. As for kneeling…yeah, there’s NO love there.”
We will be keeping up with the ladies once they get to Murray, Kentucky and let you know of their progress, Alex, like all the other ladies, competes in Smallbore and Air Rifle. In the meantime, GO BIG RED!!!
