The 3rd in this series of the 2015 Husker recruiting class is Maddie Simon. She is a hometown girl who attends Pius X high school. She is enroute to living her dream. When she signed her National Letter of Intent to play for Nebraska, she shared with the media the importance of the day.

"“Lincoln is my hometown,” Simon said. “I have grown up watching and wanting to play here my whole life. I love the coaches and players. The facilities and fan support for women’s basketball are great.”"

Simon was recruited by Iowa, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Creighton but chose Nebraska because she has grown up close to the Husker program. At 6′ 2″ she plays guard but she could switch things up when she gets to campus

Maddie Simon was born into an athletic family who are thoroughly Nebraska Huskers. Her 2 older brothers, Bennett and Zach, both graduated from the University of Nebraska. Her mother, Nicole (Ali) Simon, was a hurdler and a CoSIDA Academic All-American during her college career at Nebraska.

Maddie has been honing her skills since she was a little girl. She played her club basketball for the Nebraska Lasers coached by Lincoln North Star coach Allen Simpson. She has been on that team since she was in 4th grade. The Lasers have enjoyed great success with each passing year, playing in tournaments nationally. Simon has averaged 20 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists for the club.

Simon was also chosen first-team All-Class B  in 2013-14. She averaged 19.8 points and seven rebounds per game and led Pius X to a Class B runner-up finish. See her highlights.

Currently leading Nebraska State Class B in the rankings, Pius X (16 -1) looks poised to hoist the championship trophy at state this year. Maddie, wearing #32,  leads her team statistically averaging 18.9 points with 7.2 rebounds per game.

Basketball isn’t Maddie Simon’s only sport. She has lettered in both track and field and golf. She was the Class A state runner-up in the 100 and 300 hurdles in 2014. She finished 3rd in the 100, and was runner-up in the 300 in 2013. She was a member of Pius X’s All-Class gold medal-winning 4×400 relay in 2013.  In golf, she also qualified for the state tournament in 2013.

A complete student-athlete, Husker-to-be Maddie Simon has been an honor roll student all 4 years at Lincoln Pius X with a 3.6 GPA. A champion in the classroom, on the golf course, on the track and on the court. Actively finishing her career as a high school student-athlete, Husker Nation looks forward to welcoming her to the university in August. GO BIG RED!!!
