Nebraska Football Hall of Fame ceremony

In Saturday’s match up with South Alabama, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will celebrate the career’s of six former players, inducting them into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame. The list contains some of the most accomplished players in Huskers’ history. Brook Berringer was part of two national championship teams in 1994-95, while Scott Frost led the Huskers to a title in 1997. Of course, there are more positions besides quarterbacks, receiving Nebraska Football Hall of Fame honors.

Other players to make the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame are a pair of defensive stars from the early 2000’s. Linebacker Demorrio Williams, and safety Josh Bullocks helped lead a Nebraska defense from 2002-2004. Nebraska will also honor Larry Wilson from the 1965 team, and Jeff Krejci from the 1981 team.

Brook Berringer

If it wasn’t for Brook Berringer’s performance during the 1994 season, the Cornhuskers would have never thought of winning back to back national championships. While replacing an injured Tommie Frazier, Berringer completed 62.3 percent of his passes in seven starts. He combined with Frazier to defeat the Miami Hurricanes in the 1995 Orange Bowl. Brook Berringer was killed in an April plane crash, before the 1996 NFL Draft.

Scott Frost

Scott Frost is the last quarterback to lead the Nebraska Cornhuskers to a national championship in 1997. When his Cornhusker career was over, Frost was the only QB to pass and rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. His transition to becoming the starting quarterback wasn’t always the smoothest. Following Tommie Frazier and Brook Berringer, Frost had huge shoes to fill in 1996. The Cornhuskers were coming off of consecutive national titles, and narrowly missed a third in the 1993 season. However, the hometown hero found his footing after a slow start.

Demorrio Williams

Linebacker Demorrio Williams made his mark with the Huskers in two seasons. After transferring to Nebraska from junior college, Williams fit right in with the “Blackshirt” defense. Making 12 starts as a junior, Williams led Nebraska with 92 tackles, but it was just a precursor of what was to come in his final season. Williams tallied 128 tackles as a senior, bringing his total to 220 tackles for his career. The accolades soon followed for the All-Big 12 performer in 2003.

Josh Bullocks

Fellow “Blackshirt” Josh Bullocks was a leader in the Huskers’ secondary from 2002-04. After breaking a Nebraska and Big 12 conference record with 10 interceptions in 2003, Bullocks was voted captain for his junior season. Though he wasn’t able to duplicate the same numbers as a junior, Bullocks earned second team All-Big 12 in his final season. He was drafted in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.

Harry ‘Light Horse’ Wilson-

In addition to honoring Harry Wilson to the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame, the Huskers will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1965 team. The Huskers won a Big 8 title, and earned a trip to the Orange Bowl. The Huskers finished (10-1) after losing to Alabama in their final game.

Nebraska faces off with the South Alabama Jaguars 8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. local time. The Huskers enter the game with a (0-1) record, while the Jaguars are (1-0) on the season.
