Nebraska football 2027 four-star quarterback commit Trae Taylor opened his junior season with a dominating 52-13 win over Grayslake Central, completing 12 of 13 pass attempts for 207 yards and four touchdowns for Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel Catholic. Taylor also ran for nearly 50 yards, showing once again why the Huskers coaches are so locked into the young quarterback as their 2027 get.
While NU is locked into Taylor, the Illinois prospect is also locked into the Cornhuskers. He's even tailoring his high school playbook to include at least some aspects of what offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen is running in Lincoln.
Trae Taylor is running Nebraska’s offense — in high school
According to Rivals' Tim Verghese, Taylor is doing all he can to replicate what Nebraska is doing. That includes installing players from the Huskers' offense in his own. But it also means that he's adopted a meal plan devised by Assistant AD for Performance Nutrition Kristin Coggin and a workout routine from NU's strength and conditioning coach Corey Campbell.
Taylor is looking to be the best version of himself in various ways. His high school coach, Jason McKie, said he's behaving as though he has to prove himself, still like someone who has no offers and isn't committed.
"He is working like he hasn't committed anywhere," McKie said after Carmel Catholic's first game. "That is just who he is. He is going to continue to work like he doesn’t have anything. If you want to be great, that’s how you have to approach it."
Taylor is also working hard at peer recruiting. That's been evident to anyone on social media, but he's also working behind the scenes. He's calling people and making sure they come to Husker games he'll be at.
He's pitching the Nebraska football program to anyone and everyone who will listen. Including several of his fellow top prospects in the 2027 class. There have been few players who have bought into what Matt Rhule and Co. offer up. Trae Taylor is both a fantastic commitment and a great ambassador for everything the program has to offer.
