The Nebraska Cornhuskers football team is getting ready for a massive season. Matt Rhule's third year at the helm is usually the one where his preaching and his teaching really take hold. Here's hoping that trend continues in Lincoln because while Rhule is thought to be relatively safe in his job, there's at least some chance that he's on a hotter seat than he was a year ago.

CBS Sports has issued its annual list of where coaches stand regarding whether they'll be fired. While the list claims that Rhule is safe... for now, it's clear that the pressure has increased on him after making a bowl game for the first time in 2024. He went from "very safe" to one step away from getting in trouble.

Big Ten caught in the fight for College Football Playoff format

This week has been filled with discussions about how the college football world might change the playoff format for 2026. When the week opened, the Big Ten and the SEC were on the same page. Then SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said he was fine if the format didn't change.

According to a new report from Brett McMurphy, the Big Ten isn't happy about that. McMurphy said that the conference will absolutely not adopt the same format from last year for 2026. The big question is whether Tony Petitti has any real choice in the matter.

Barstool joining Fox Sports?

In other, less-than-great news for the College Football world, Dave Portnoy might join Big Noon Kickoff. At first glance, this appears to be a knee-jerk reaction to ESPN featuring Pat McAfee on College GameDay.

The problem, of course, is that this means someone who is a very devoted Michigan fan will be talking on pregame shows, including one between Michigan and Nebraska later this year.

There's also the fact that Portnoy is as big a clown as McAfee and doesn't really need to be given an even bigger platform.

For now, Portnoy and Fox haven't worked out a deal officially. However, it feels like the deal will come down the pike.
