The Nebraska football fall camp is just days away from kicking off and there are a ton of different players that bear watching. There may not be a more attractive potential contributor to the fight than Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda.

The former New Mexico State wide receiver has had some seriously bad luck since coming to Lincoln. Back-to-back injuries in the early part of the season has made his Husker career unimpressive, with a side of real potential. It appears he’s working quite hard to make his last season with the Huskers the year he finally realizes that potential.

Nebraska football oft-injured receiver is back and ready to roll

Garcia-Castaneda has been getting rave reviews from his coaches this summer. That despite the fact he still couldn’t practice with the Nebraska football team this spring after suffering an ACL injury last fall.

Last week, he took to Twitter to show the progress he’s made in rehabbing from the ACL tear.

“Recap of the past 10 months post ACL surgery:

  • Body weight: 198lbs ✅
  • Back Squat 1RM: 500lbs ✅
  • Bench press 1RM: 370lbs ✅
  • Power clean: 305lbs ✅
  • 225 Bench press test: 20 reps ✅
  • 21+ mph on GPS ✅”

The veteran receiver then went on to say that he wasn’t trying to brag. He was clearly just proud of the work he’d been doing over the last 10 months.

The excitement here is obvious. The Cornhuskers’ wide receiver corps is supposed to be improved. And that was without leaning on IGC, mainly because there was still a question as to whether he’d be ready to go.

The good news is that he seems to be saying that he will indeed be ready to go. The better news is that if it still takes him some time to ramp up, the Nebraska football team has time and the talent to let him.
