When Micah Mazzccua arrived in Lincoln and joined the Nebraska football team, he didn’t blend in perfectly. In fact, there are more than a few reports that the transfer offensive lineman stuck out like a sore thumb.
According to On3’s Robin Washut, he got off to a rocky start. He was someone who didn’t exactly embrace the Matt Rhule way. There was even a chance that he was going to turn into one of those players that could eventually fade into the background.
Nebraska football transfer lineman on track to be 'fixture' after early struggles
However, something finally clicked for Mazzccua. He’s turning into someone who will almost certainly be a contributor for the Nebraska football team. He’s looking like he might be a “fixture” for the Huskers. And that is of course great news for a team that wants to go bowling for the first time since 2016 this year.
“Micah’s a talented player,” head coach Matt Rhule said earlier this spring. “Micah’s going to have to do all the things I just talked about. He’s going to have to understand that at the University of Nebraska, we work, we grind, we pay the price. It’s not about what we did; it’s about what we’re trying to do.”
The former Florida Gator took those comments to heart, By the time the spring game rolled around, he was the starting left guard.
“Micah’s done a great job at being himself while also trying to find his way into our tight-knit group in the locker room,” Ty Robinson recently told the media. “He’s done a great job of that. Me and Micah’s lockers are right next to each other, and I get to talk to him every day. He’s an awesome guy.”
While he started in the spring game, there’s still no guarantee he’ll be a starter this season. However, Phil Steele has already tabbed him as a second-team Preseason All-Big Ten selection.
It looks as though the Nebraska football team has a talented player on the roster.
