One of the saddest parts about the end to the 2022 Nebraska football season was how former wide receiver and interim head coach Mickey Joseph departed. There was a period of time when it looked like might get the full time Huskers' gig. Then Matt Rhule was hired.

Things spiraled out of control for Joseph soon after, ending any chance he had at being retained by Rhule as the wide receivers coach, assuming that was ever actually in the cards. After all, the only coach Rhule kept from the previous regime was Donovan Raiola. The reason for that continues to be self evident.

After leaving the Nebraska football program after just one season and sitting out the 2023 campaign, it appears he's about to have a brand new gig. FootballScoop was among the first to report that Joseph is set to become Grambling's next head coach.

While the deal hasn't been made totally official, the HBCU powerhouse has scheduled a press conference where they are expected to announce the former Nebraska football coach is taking over the program. It will certainly be interesting if something happens to make Joseph fall through. Will Grambling have their backup plan ready to go?

Former Nebraska football coach taking over Grambling

The Mickey Joseph-Grambling connection is an obvious one. The former Husker head coach and quarterback is a Louisiana native. He came back to Lincoln after spending the last few years with LSU so he has a good understanding of the area where he'll be trying to recruit. He also happens to be a heck of a recruiter.

While Grambling has long been known as a power in its conference, it's fallen on hard times, it's hard to think of someone who might be a better fit than the former Nebraska football coach. While things turned sour upon his exit from Lincoln, here's hoping he's turned things around and can start building his career again.
