While Nebraska football’s spring practice has officially started, that doesn’t mean the Huskers coaches are ignoring recruiting in any way, shape or form. In fact, Matt Rhule and company just issued a brand new offer to one of the more talented high school players in the state of Florida.
Simeon Caldwell is a four-star defensive back out of The Bolles School in Jacksonville. Ranked as a 4-star defensive back in the 2026 class, he’s thought to be someone who will eventually commit to Notre Dame, but that hasn’t stopped the Huskers from trying to get their foot in the door.
The Nebraska football team is going after Caldwell rather late in the game. Whether that’s because they see some light between the Fighting Irish and the defensive back, or they just feel like they want to see if they can make some inroads, it will be interesting to see how this recruitment plays out.

One thing that’s quite interesting about Caldwell getting an offer is that he is essentially shutting down his recruiting now that fall is almost here.
He’s on record as saying that once practice and games start for his high school, he’s going to focus on the season and not take any more visits.
Nebraska football is likely hoping that they can position themselves to get a trip to Lincoln locked down once Caldwell’s season is over. Because he’s a 2026 recruit, it’s still a year and a half until he can sign with any team.
